Midland County Public Library Extends Popular International Exhibit

International Exhibit Extended
PERMIAN BASIN, TX –

Due to popular demand the Permian Monsters: Life Before the Dinosaurs exhibition on display at the Museum of the Southwest and Midland County’s Centennial Library will be extended. Initially scheduled to close on Sunday, July 26, the exhibition will now remain open until Friday, August 21.

In celebration of the extension, and to remind residents to visit both sections of the exhibition before it departs for good, both institutions have made special plans for Saturday, July 11 from 10 am to 2 pm:

Museum of the Southwest

Celebrate this fun occasion at the Museum of the Southwest with free campus admission and dome shows, as well as activities including fossil-making, dinosaur masks, explorer guides, create-your-own-dinosaur costume and more.  “Buddy the Dinosaur” from Basin PBS Dinosaur Train will make appearances between 10 a.m. and 11 pm, then head over to the Blakemore Planetarium at 11 a.m. for featured film, The Land Before Time. The day’s events will conclude with the judging of dinosaur costumes at 1:30 p.m. under the tent by the membership table.  Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most creative costumes.

Centennial Library

Visit the Centennial Library for the “best of” this summer’s Permian Monsters programming, activities and games including Erupting Volcanoes, Fossil Dig, and Adapt!. Further explore the key themes of the exhibit with a family backpack in the library, or check out a book from our Permian Monsters collection to take home and learn more. Tours will be available every hour, or take a self-guided tour and become a junior palaeontologist with the Adventure Guide. Finish it for a special prize!

PBS’s Dinosaur Train will play for the duration of the event in the Permian Pictures Theater (by the dig pits) with a special visit from “Buddy the Dinosaur” at 1 pm.
