Today, April 3rd, is the first deadline to contact your representatives to ask them to sign “Dear Appropriator” letters. These two letters ask Appropriators to support Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding and Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) funding.
If you are unsure if your representative has signed the letter, you can use this database to find out. ALA’s Take Action page makes it easy to contact the appropriate people with talking points. You can send an email, make a phone call, or send a tweet. If your rep has signed the letter, please call to thank them!
The Texas Library Association released a statement on the President’s proposed budget which eliminates federal library funding.
The Texas State Library recently released a wonderful video showing the impact that IMLS has on all Texans.
Don’t let the word deadline stop you either. April 3rd is only the first deadline, but EveryLibrary assures me that it isn’t over until the budget is passed. Continuing contacting representatives past April 3rd!
