Library Advocacy Videos

Now that the Texas Legislature is in session, it is time for librarians, Friends, board members, and citizens who love libraries to talk to their legislators about the importance of libraries. Severe budget cuts in the last session affected all Texas public libraries greatly.

The staff at North Texas Library Partners have put together some advocacy videos that you can use. Click on the link below. Thanks to Carolyn Davidson Brewer for sending these to us.

Our advocacy videos can be shown by your libraries, advocates, anyone wanting to use them especially during times like these when the legislature is reconvening and discussing library funding.  http://www.youtube.com/nottypicalntlp

Pflugerville on the Move

Pflugerville is in the middle of a building project. They are in transition to the new section of their building and have passed some of their furniture and equipment along to other libraries via auction. Receiving the gently used pieces were Bremond, Jonestown, Leander, Little Elm, Penitas, and Whitney. Stay tuned for news about their grand opening soon!

Texas Library Snapshot Day!

The Texas Library Association’s annual Library Snapshot Day celebration is officially scheduled for October 31, but libraries can select any day in October as their Snapshot Day. This event offers libraries a framework for promoting services, inviting the public and media to the library, and capturing important information that can be used in advocacy and promotional materials.

TLA’s official Snapshot Day website – www.texaslibrarysnapshotday.org – has resources (e.g., a sample press release, customer/student input forms, instructions for submitting final data and uploading photographs, video/photo permissions form, tips for using the information, and much more!).

Thanks to Gloria Meraz at TLA for this information.
