Buda Public Library’s former Library Director, Marjorie Martinez passed away on Saturday, July 24th, 2010. Marjorie came to work at the Buda Public Library in July 1989 after working for years as an educator in many capacities. She received her Masters of Library and Information Science from U.T., Austin, in May of 1997 while serving as the Librarian in Buda. “She led the Buda Public Library into the 21st century through her acceptance and promotion of technology as a pathway to information and served multiple roles as librarian, teacher, mentor and friend to countless members of the community. Marjorie worked tirelessly to promote literacy and lifelong learning among the citizens of not only Buda but Hays County as well,” says Toni Milam. In April, 2010 Marjorie retired from her position as Director and was honored by the Mayor and Council with special recognition for her twenty years of superior service, dedication, and commitment to the Citizens of Buda.
